LAUDERHILL, Fla., June 7 (UPI) -- City police say mutilated dead cats found in Lauderhill, Fla., may be the work of dogs, despite suspicions humans killed dozens more in nearby Dade County.
Lauderhill police Capt. Rick Rocco told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel a pack of dogs may be responsible for killing seven cats found dead in the past few days.
Rocco said he may have seen the suspected dog pack near the site of one of the cat killings, adding the canines are being sought by Broward County Animal Control.
"When I tried to approach them they seemed a little skittish and backed into the brush along the canal, so we don't think they're a danger to people," he said of the four dogs he encountered Friday.
The Sun-Sentinel reported dozens of similar cat killings have taken place throughout Miami-Dade County, Fla., in recent weeks, leading area investigators to suspect at least one individual is responsible.
