Police charge slain woman's husband

CRUMPTON, Md., June 6 (UPI) -- Police in Maryland say they have charged a 28-year-old man with murder over his wife's death during an alleged carjacking incident.

Police said Ryan Holness is facing both first and second-degree murder charges regarding the death of his wife, Serika, whose body was found Friday in Crumpton, Md., CNN reported Saturday.

Holness alleged he and his wife had been carjacked by an unidentified armed man on the New Jersey Turnpike Thursday night and that individual attacked his wife.

"He told investigators that he was assaulted by the suspect and forced to drive to Crumpton," Gregory Shipley of the Maryland State Police said. "He said the suspect bound his feet and hands with duct tape before attacking his wife who had tried to flee the scene."

The couple's car has been recovered, but the alleged carjacking suspect has yet to be located.

Police told CNN they chose to charge Holness for the death of his wife after investigators noticed inconsistencies in the man's description of the incident.
