ST. JOHN'S, Newfoundland, June 5 (UPI) -- Four people were injured when a private helicopter crashed Thursday night in south-central Newfoundland, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
The Bell 206 craft went down in a remote wooded area outside of Conne River near the Mikmaq Indian reservation, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Friday.
RCMP Constable Daniel O'Blenis told the broadcaster the helicopter was attempting to land when it "struck a tree at a low altitude."
Three of the four people injured were in serious condition, the CBC said.
Another private helicopter was first on the scene and transported the most seriously injured person to a hospital in nearby St. Albans. A military search and rescue team flew from Gander in a Cormorant helicopter to transport the other three to a hospital in the capital, St. John's, the report said.
