British PM Gordon Brown faces pressure in London

LONDON, June 4 (UPI) -- Voters across Britain went to the polls Thursday for local and European elections.

Up for grabs are Britain's 72 seats at the European Parliament, 2,138 local councilors and three mayors, The Times of London reported.

A YouGov survey for The Daily Telegraph indicates the Labor Party, under Prime Minister Gordon Brown's leadership, could be in for a drubbing, showing it trailed the Independence Party in the European vote. In local elections, the Labor Party faces the loss of some of its remaining strongholds in the Midlands and North.

Results of the European vote weren't expected until Sunday.
