Neighbors beat child rape suspect

PHILADELPHIA, June 3 (UPI) -- A child rape suspect was attacked and critically injured by a dozen residents of a Philadelphia neighborhood, police said.

The neighbors cornered Jose Carrasquillo and beat him with their fists, feet and wooden sticks after he was named a "person of interest" in the rape of an 11-year-old middle school girl, the Philadelphia Daily News reported Wednesday.

Carrasquillo, 26, was hospitalized in critical condition with head wounds.

He has not been charged in the Monday morning rape of the 11-year-old yet but police say he has been linked by physical evidence to the yard where the incident occurred.

"We knew this male was in that yard," said Capt. John Darby, commander of the Special Victims Unit.

The mother of the child who was raped told the Daily News she was happy her neighbors beat the man.

"I mean, he deserves worse than what he did to my daughter," she said.
