Gunmen kidnap two Somali clerics

MOGADISHU, Somalia, June 3 (UPI) -- Two well-known Somali clerics have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen in Mogadishu, witnesses say.

Residents of the city's Huruwa district told Shabelle Radio that armed men attacked the neighborhood Tuesday night and abducted the two Muslim clerics, identified as Mohamed Wehliye Dool and Mohamed Abshir Aden.

Wehliye's son told the broadcaster that bullets fired by the kidnappers injured another religious man who had come to visit the abducted clerics.

Shabelle said no communications have been issued by the kidnappers and it remains unclear why the clerics were abducted and where they were taken.
