NEW YORK, June 2 (UPI) -- Former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer patronized many prostitutes, a lawyer for the woman who says she arranged his trysts said.
Temeka Lewis was sentenced Monday to a year on probation under a plea bargain with federal prosecutors, the New York Daily News reported. Lawyer Marc Agnifilo said she learned Spitzer's identity months before the scandal became public and cooperated with federal investigators.
"Ms. Lewis provided the government with the names of hotels, the approximate dates of meetings, the names of women the governor saw, different names the governor utilized," Agnifilo said in a court filing.
Spitzer, who resigned as governor, has never been charged. Lewis pleaded guilty to money laundering and promoting prostitution.
Marc Brener, 63, organizer of the Emperors Club call-girl service, received a 30-month sentence.
"I deeply regret my decision to break the law," Lewis told U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin. "It was a thoughtless, careless, selfish decision. It was wrong."
