WARSAW, Poland, May 31 (UPI) -- A Polish cancer specialist suggested Sunday printing images of tumors on cigarette packs could deter people from smoking.

Speaking on No Tobacco Day, Witold Zatonski, an oncologist professor, said it is important to aggressively confront smokers with printed graphic images every time they take a cigarette from the pack.

Zatonski said images of tumors, cancer and diseased lungs would show people the true hazards of smoking, he told the Polish Web site thenews.pl.

Out of Poland's 38 million population, about 8 million are smokers. Smoking-related diseases kill about 60,000 Poles a year.
