YANGON, Myanmar, May 29 (UPI) -- The National League for Democracy says it is concerned about the failing health of its imprisoned leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, in Mynamar.
The political party said the 63-year-old pro-democracy leader is in need of medical attention for cramps in her legs that have left her unable to sleep while being detained on charges she violated house arrest regulations, the BBC reported Friday.
Suu Kyi is facing charges she broke the rules of her house arrest through a visit by U.S. national John Yettaw. If convicted on the charges, which she denies, the NLD leader could spend up to five years in prison.
Attorney Nyan Win, who is one of the lawyers representing Suu Kyi, said final arguments in the case have been scheduled for June 5.
The BBC said before being arrested May 14, Suu Kyi had problems with low blood pressure and dehydration.
The BBC said the foreign ministry of Myanmar insists Suu Kyi is in good health and has received adequate healthcare since being detained.
