MCKINNEY, Texas, May 28 (UPI) -- An HIV-positive Texas man faces a long prison term after being convicted of assaulting six women by having unprotected sex with them.
Philippe Padieu, 53, a martial arts teacher from Frisco, was convicted Wednesday of aggravated assault, The Dallas Morning News reported. Jurors in Collin County deliberated for about five hours before reaching their verdict.
During closing arguments Wednesday, prosecutors said one of the women Padieu had sex with has been diagnosed with AIDS and the others are HIV-positive.
"It's as if he took a gun and shot all of them," Lisa King said. "But a gunshot wound heals. In this case, he gave them a virus that causes a disease that may well kill them."
Padieu's lawyers blamed the women for having unprotected sex, saying they should have told him "no glove, no love."
"He's not a predator," lawyer Bennie House said. "He likes sex."
