FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., May 28 (UPI) -- A 41-year-old man will spend his life in prison for posing as a police officer in order to kidnap and rape a tourist in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a judge says.
Broward County Circuit Judge Paul Backman sentenced Raymond Kelly to a life prison sentence Wednesday for kidnapping and raping a tourist Aug. 27, 2006, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel said.
Kelly was arrested in November 2006 and accused of posing as a police officer when he approached the woman, whose identity was not reported, and lured her to his car.
Police said once Kelly had the female tourist inside his car, he used tape and plastic handcuffs to bind and silence her. He then broke into a closed Fort Lauderdale business where he raped the woman, police said.
The Sun-Sentinel said Kelly, who was convicted of the crime in March, also stands accused of sexually assaulting another woman on June 25, 2006, and injuring a third woman during a failed assault in October of that same year.
