
BELGRADE, Serbia, May 26 (UPI) -- Serbian gay and lesbian groups said Tuesday they plan to hold a parade later this year in Belgrade to spotlight problems homosexuals face daily.
Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizations said, however, they are not ready to announce the date for the parade.
Gay and lesbian groups occasionally have organized marches in downtown Belgrade in the past eight years and each time were attacked by angry bystanders.
The gay activists offered no explanation for why they decided against delaying the parade until next year as they had said they would earlier. A majority of Serbians oppose the march, raising the specter of possible violence.
Citing a new law that bans discrimination, organizers said they expect police would provide protection, Belgrade's B92 Web site said.
