SEATTLE, May 26 (UPI) -- The pilot of a small plane successfully landed the craft in Seattle's Genesee Park and Playfield after experiencing a mechanical failure, officials said.

Park visitors were surprised by the Memorial Day mishap, with witnesses telling the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the single-engine Cessna 210 swooped low over the trees and made a sharp turn.

"We thought it might have landed in (Lake Washington)," Seattle resident Julia Paden said.

Instead, the plane came down in a grassy area near the center of the park. Its unidentified pilot was not hurt, nor were his two passengers or anyone on the ground, the P-I said.
