Croatian kills his wife, 2 kids, himself

SPLIT, Croatia, May 26 (UPI) -- A Croatian man shot to death his wife and two children as they slept in their Split apartment on the central Adriatic coast, then killed himself, police said.

Police and judges were investigating the man's motives, a Split police spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Ljubomir Zaradic, 43, a tourist office inspector, fired at least eight rounds from his East German-made automatic rifle as his family slept in their apartment in the residential Pazdigrad neighborhood along Split's eastern seafront.

The killings of Oriana Zaradic, 38, son Trpimir, 10, and daughter Deni, 5, occurred early Monday, investigators said.

Authorities said Zaradic had no police record and there was no history of domestic disputes.
