WINNIPEG, Manitoba, May 26 (UPI) -- A Canadian court in Winnipeg heard details of how a couple allegedly taught their 7-year-old daughter "this is a white man's world."

The custody hearing for the girl and her toddler brother began Monday with accounts of how the girl showed up at school with hand-painted swastikas and racist emblems on her arms and legs, the Globe and Mail reported.

The names of the children, her mother and stepfather can't be published, CJOB-AM in Winnipeg reported.

A social worker testified after a teacher washed off the racist insignia for two consecutive days last June, the girl spoke casually of committing violence against non-whites.

"She said the meaning of (the swastika) is that black people don't belong," the social worker testified. "Black people just need to die. That's not scary -- this is a white man's world."

Both children are in the custody of the Manitoba provincial child protective service pending the outcome of the hearing, the Globe said. The parents have since separated although both of their lawyers entered arguments that their constitutional rights of freedom of religion and expression have been violated, the reports said.

The trial is expected to run through the week, lawyers said.
