KARACHI, Pakistan, May 23 (UPI) -- Violence in parts of Karachi overnight Saturday have put Pakistani police on alert and prompted shops to stay closed, witnesses say.
At least three people were killed and eight vehicles set ablaze Friday in the Pakistani metropolis, with four people arrested for destroying public vehicles, police and fire brigade sources told Pakistan's English-language newspaper Dawn.
Police said the charred bodies of a woman and a girl were recovered from a minibus that had been torched near the Karachi City Zoo, and a man was shot and killed while driving his car.
The violence has put the city on alert. Traffic was much slower than normal Saturday as store owners in major shopping areas refused to open, Dawn reported.
