NEWARK, N.J., May 23 (UPI) -- A collision between a boat and another vessel on the Manasquan River in New Jersey has resulted in the death of an area man, authorities say.
Police said 24-year-old Kyle Tanis of Mahwah, N.J., was killed Friday after a boat in which he was traveling crashed into a larger vessel in the river between Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., the Star-Ledger of New Jersey reported Saturday.
Hospital officials said two of the other passengers in the smaller vessel, Gina Franzino, 22 and Jamie Franzino, 19, have been placed in surgical intensive care with unspecified injuries.
The officials said the remaining passengers in the vessel, Jessica Moncada, 20, and David Martinez, 24, received medical attention for minor injuries.
The two men on board the larger vessel were not injured in Friday's crash, Coast Guard Petty Officer Chris McLaughlin said.
McLaughlin told the Star-Ledger it appears the collision occurred after the driver of the smaller vessel, thought to be Martinez, lost control of the boat. Authorities did not know if alcohol or drugs were involved in the deadly collision.
