TEHRAN, May 20 (UPI) -- Iranian officials said they successfully tested another surface-to-surface missile Wednesday.
State-run media report the missile -- the Sajil 2 -- was launched from the city of Semnan in northern Iran and reached its target, CNN reported. The news reports didn't indicate where the missile landed.
A similar test was undertaken in November.
The Sajil missile -- which Iran said is the next generation of surface-to-surface missiles -- uses solid fuel that uses smaller containers, allowing the rockets to travel further, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the semi-official Fars News Agency.
Iran says the missiles have a range of nearly 1,243 miles, which would put Moscow, Athens and southern Italy within striking distance from Iran, said Jane's Information Group, which provides information on defense issues.
