Militant killed in Haqqani network raid

KABUL, Afghanistan, May 16 (UPI) -- A raid designed to destabilize an eastern Afghanistan militant network resulted in the death of an armed militant, U.S. military officials say.

Another person was detained in the religious school raid on the Haqqani network, which has been blamed for a series of attacks in the region, CNN reported Saturday.

The military statement said U.S. troops came under fire as they approached the building, and returned fire, killing the "armed militant."

The army reported finding four grenades in the building, CNN said.
