SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., May 16 (UPI) -- A 3-year-old boy taken at gunpoint from his California home two weeks ago has been found safe in Mexicali, Mexico, police said Saturday.
The boy, Briant Rodriguez, was reunited with his mother after she flew to Mexico with San Bernardino County, Calif., investigators, The (San Bernardino) Sun reported.
Mexican police told the investigators Friday that a boy matching the child's description was found wandering the streets of Mexicali, a border town, the report said. The boy's head had been shaven.
Sheriff's Sgt. Doug Hubbard told the newspaper, "Tears even came to Briant's eyes. It was a beautiful thing. When his mother came into the picture, he immediately ran to his mother's arms and they embraced."
The boy was taken from his San Bernardino home May 3 by two armed men, The Sun said. The men ransacked the house and tied up the mother and four of Briant's siblings before taking the boy. They told the mother they were taking him to Mexico to kill him, the report said.
The newspaper said police do not have a motive and the kidnappers did not demand a ransom.
Meanwhile, CNN reported that police believe they have two suspects captured on videotape buying tape -- to tie up the family -- at a nearby store.
The Sun said a surveillance photo allegedly shows the suspects' green Ford Bronco speeding away from the neighborhood.
