WASHINGTON, May 15 (UPI) -- Karl Rove, ex-President George W. Bush's top political aide, was questioned Friday about the firings of U.S. prosecutors in 2006 in an alleged political purge.

Rove emerged from his lawyer's office in Washington after several hours, CNN reported. He answered no questions, pausing only to wish the lurking reporters a good weekend.

"Mr. Rove was interviewed by prosecutors today and answered all of their questions," his lawyer, Robert Luskin, said in a statement. "He intends to fully cooperate with the investigation."

Nora Dannehy, the acting U.S. attorney for Connecticut, was appointed by former U.S. Attorney General Michael Mukasey to supervise the investigation into the 2006 firings and determine if anyone should be prosecuted.

The Bush administration dismissed nine U.S. attorneys in 2006. Several have charged that they were fired for political reasons and slandered as incompetents.

Former U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., has admitted calling U.S. Attorney David Iglesias about a month before he was fired and discussing a corruption case, the report said. Domenici denied urging Iglesias to bring an indictment before the 2006 election.
