BEIJING, May 15 (UPI) -- China is prepared to increase relations with Egypt, Vice President Xi Jinping said Friday.

"We have always supported and helped each other since forging diplomatic ties," Xi told Egyptian Defense Minister Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, Xinhua reported.

"We will work with China to push forward relations between the two armed forces and the two nations," Tantawi said.

Tantawi arrived in Beijing last Friday for an official visit as a guest of Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie, the state-run news service reported.
