PALM CITY, Fla., May 14 (UPI) -- A bald eagle found trapped and injured at a St. Lucie County, Fla., water treatment center is expected to make a full recovery, officials say.
Lt. Doug Rogerson and Officer Kyle Patterson of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission managed to save the injured bird after finding it trapped between a fence and a ditch at the treatment center, the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post said Wednesday.
The eagle, which had been attempting to free itself by shoving its head through a hole in the fence, was unable to fly following the April 30 rescue.
The bird was found to be malnourished and underweight but did not appear to have any broken bones.
Once the eagle is fully recuperated at Palm City's Treasure Coast Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, it will be released into the wild, officials said.
