MIAMI, May 13 (UPI) -- Miami authorities have jailed a Head Start teacher suspected of kicking preschoolers in his care at the Charles R. Drew Elementary school.
Jean E. Dorvil, 56, is being held without bond on felony charges of aggravated child abuse with great bodily harm and battery, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.
Cynthia Blue told police her 5-year-old daughter Mikel came home from school April 16 with a cut on her mouth and blood on her blouse.
The child told authorities Dorvil kicked her in the face after she went to the restroom without permission during nap time.
Investigators for the Miami-Dade Schools Police said one staff member knew about two other children who had been kicked by Dorvil earlier in the school year but failed to report the incident as required by Florida law.
Child welfare officials say it might not be the first time that Dorvil has abused children.
In 2002, he was reprimanded for failing to report that a child had been hurt in his care.
