Driver's rampage may have been intentional

SEATTLE, May 13 (UPI) -- A man who struck several pedestrians and vehicles during a period of several minutes in Seattle appeared to do so deliberately, police and witnesses allege.

Seattle police spokesman Mark Jamieson said the exact number of victims from Tuesday's incident is still being determined, adding the unidentified driver was left in critical condition after he crashed into a semi truck, The Seattle Times said Wednesday.

Police said the man's driving rampage began when he struck a pedestrian in a Home Depot parking lot. The specific condition of the pedestrian was not reported.

Following the pedestrian crash, the man's Honda Accord hit a vehicle while leaving the lot and grazed a state trooper who was off-duty but in uniform at the time.

Witness Kay Reeder said the vehicle then stuck a van, went in reverse and hit the van again.

"He drove off yelling, 'Woo hoo!,'" Reeder said of the Accord's driver.

Police said the driver then hit several other vehicles before ultimately crashing head-on into a semi-truck.

The Times said the off-duty officer and the driver of the semi-truck were not seriously injured. The condition of those operating the other impacted vehicles was not reported.
