Did parents kidnap Mormon convert?

SALT LAKE CITY, Texas, May 13 (UPI) -- Utah detectives say they cannot take the word of colleagues in Texas that a young woman who converted to Mormonism went with her parents voluntarily.

Lt. Don Hutson of the Salt Lake County sheriff's department said that investigators want to talk to Danielle Alonso alone, The Salt Lake Tribune reported. He said that police in Rockport, Texas, saw her with her parents present.

Danielle Alonso, 19, a college student remained in Utah when her parents moved to Texas last year. Investigators say that her parents, who are Roman Catholic, became upset when she decided to join the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.

Danielle's roommate told police the Alonsos showed up at their apartment in Holladay and "whisked her away."

Hutson said Danielle called police Sunday and said she feared her parents might be coming for her. She was advised that, as an adult, she could stay where she was.
