FBI whistleblower to testify to Congress

WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- A former FBI agent is expected to tell Congress former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales urged the use of harsh interrogation techniques, ABC News reports.

Former FBI agent Ali Soufan is expected to offer testimony Wednesday that will contradict assertions by CIA officials and former Vice President Dick Cheney that "enhanced interrogation techniques" were successful getting information out of al-Qaida detainees.

Soufan says Gonzales pressed counterterrorism officials to use brutal interrogation techniques on terror suspect Abu Zubaydah in 2002, ABC reported. The network said Soufan met Zubaydah in Thailand days after the al-Qaida suspect was captured in Pakistan.

At the time, Zubaydah was considered the most important operative captured after the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks.
