LONDON, May 12 (UPI) -- The parents of a 7-month-old baby girl drowned while trying to save their two dogs from a undertow in Britain's River Garnock, police in Kilwinning said.
Laura Frey, 30, and her partner Darren Greenan, 33, drowned Sunday just yards from where their daughter, Ellis, sat in her buggy on the riverbank, The Times of London reported Tuesday. Greenan had three other children from previous relationships.
Frey and Greenan tried unsuccessfully to rescue their collie and a terrier, whose bodies were found after rescue workers pulled Frey and Greenan from water between two weirs, a spokesman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said.
"Nobody could fight against that," the spokesman said. "It's a river to be avoided at all costs."
