Search for teen scaled back

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., May 11 (UPI) -- Investigators in South Carolina say they have scaled back the search for a 17-year-old Rochester, N.Y., girl who disappeared on her spring break.

Brittanee Drexel, a Gates-Chili High School junior, vanished April 25 from Myrtle Beach, S.C. Her cell phone gave off its last signal that week about 55 miles south of Myrtle Beach, Georgetown County Sheriff Lane Cribb said.

"It's getting to the point where we don't have any more clues," Cribb said. Investigators have used dogs, boats, planes and foot patrols in their search for the girl, The Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle reported Monday.

Drexel had been despondent after hearing her parents were divorcing, said family members working with police to distribute a missing-person poster.

"We just hope that she hears about everyone looking for her so she can just come back home," said Carol Wagner, Drexel's grandmother.

Friday night, Wagner and other members of Drexel's family held a candlelight vigil at the Bluewater Resort, where she last was seen, the Democrat and Chronicle reported.
