CALGARY, Alberta, May 9 (UPI) -- Police in western Canada say they found a small arsenal in the home of a Calgary man who was banned from possessing firearms.
John Sattler, 47, was arrested Thursday, the Edmonton Sun reported Saturday. Calgary police said they went to Sattler's bungalow after a threat to use a weapon was reported.
Officers found 22 weapons, including assault rifles, ammunition and an anti-tank rocket launching tube labeled "Canadian Army." One of the assault rifles was equipped with a homemade silencer.
"It makes us wonder -- it's hard for us to speculate why he has a silencer on this particular weapon," Inspector Greg Johnson said. "Our major concern is the number of weapons and the type of weapons ... we'll try to determine the reason for this collection."
Sattler was under a 10-year ban from owing firearms that had another four years to run.
Johnson said there were no rounds for the launcher, which may have been a souvenir.
Sattler was being held on charges of making a threat and weapons violations.
