JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, May 8 (UPI) -- South African President-elect Jacob Zuma is expected to be sworn in Saturday and officially become the country's leader, officials said.
Political analyst Somadoda Fikeni said Zuma should follow up the swearing-in ceremony by officially naming his Cabinet choices, Voice of America reported Friday.
Fikeni said that while Zuma has been serving as president-elect since assuming power from caretaker President Kgalema Motlanthe, the ceremony will solidify his position.
"He has been elected by the majority in Parliament and now what is left is for the chief justice or the head of the Constitutional Court to swear him in and in a lavish ceremony in which world leaders mainly from the African continent have been invited," the analyst said.
Fikeni also discussed possible Cabinet choices being considered Zuma, suggesting the African National Congress president may embrace certain officials who served under former South African President Thabo Mbeki.
"His Cabinet will include some of the ministers who were there under Thabo Mbeki, especially those who remained either neutral or who supported him during the time of his struggle for succession," Fikeni told Voice of America.
