MIDDLETOWN, Conn., May 7 (UPI) -- A man police accused of fatally shooting a Wesleyan University student in Middletown, Conn., was being sought by law enforcement Thursday.

Police alleged Stephen Morgan, 29, fired a gun at Johana Justin-Jinich several times Wednesday while she worked at a bookstore cafe, The (Middletown) Press reported Thursday.

Justin-Jinich was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

"This is a devastating loss for Johanna's family, friends and for the entire Wesleyan Community," Wesleyan President Michael Roth said in a statement posted on the school's Web site.

Based on evidence at the crime scene, police advised Wesleyan students and Middletown residents to consider the suspect armed and dangerous. Students were advised to avoid large gatherings, return to their residences and remain indoors for the rest of the evening.

"There is no reason to believe the perpetrator is on or near the campus, but we believe that the Wesleyan community could possibly be at risk," read a security update issued by Mike Whaley, Wesleyan's vice president for student affairs.

The suspect apparently wore a wig so he could get close enough to Justin-Jinich to shoot, the New York Daily News reported. Investigators said a wig and gun were recovered at the scene, investigators said.

Justin-Jinich, 20, a junior from Timnath, Colo., is survived by her parents and a sister, who attends Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
