Chimp owner agrees to asset freeze

STAMFORD, Conn., May 6 (UPI) -- The Connecticut woman whose pet chimpanzee mauled a friend agreed Wednesday to freeze $10 million in assets while a lawsuit heads to court.

A lawyer for Sandra Herold of Stamford told a judge she had agreed not to dispose of six properties and three businesses she owns, The Stamford Times reported.

The victim, Carla Nash, remains in the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. Doctors there say she is blind and is likely to need years of surgery.

Herold asked Nash to come over in February because Travis, her 200-pound chimpanzee, had escaped from the house and she needed help getting him back inside. The chimpanzee attacked Nash as soon as she got out of her car in an attack that ended up costing Nash her hands, nose, eyelids and lips.

Travis was shot by police after they arrived.

Herold could face criminal charges once police finish their investigation of the attack.
