Nine coalminers trapped in Ukraine

KIEV, Ukraine, May 5 (UPI) -- A landslide in eastern Ukraine trapped nine miners in a shaft of the state-run Donetsk coal mine, the Ukrainian forUm Web site said.

A landslide hit the Novodzerzhynska shaft of the Donetsk coal mine Monday. Five miners escaped without injuries.

Rescue operations were still under way, forUm said Tuesday.

At the time of the accident 118 miners were in the mine.

Mine officials are investigating the cause of the accident.
