CHICAGO, May 4 (UPI) -- A 56-year-old former Chicago police officer serving a life sentence in Pennsylvania should receive personal property seized by authorities, a judge says.
U.S. District Court Judge Blanche Manning ordered federal authorities to return Joseph Miedzianowski's personal property to his attorney, except for dozens of guns seized from the former cop, the Chicago Sun-Times said Monday.
Manning said in her ruling that Miedzianowski's son, whose identity was not reported, is not entitled to assume custody of the cache of weapons.
The weapons are part of an arsenal Miedzianowski used to arm gang members as part of a Chicago-to-Miami drug ring he was convicted of running, prosecutors allege.
The property Manning agreed to hand over ranges from a baseball card collection to Nazi memorabilia. Among the Nazi goods are a set of Nazi SS cufflinks a so-called Nazi SS Death Head ring.
The Sun-Times said U.S. Bureau of Prisons restrictions will likely prevent Miedzianokski from every personally taking custody of the items while in prison.
