Guatemala hit with 6.1-magnitude quake

SANTIAGO ATITLAN, Guatemala, May 3 (UPI) -- Portions of Guatemala were shaken Sunday by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake near the city of Santiago Atitlan, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The U.S. scientific agency said in a news release the earthquake occurred 6 miles east-northeast of Santiago Atitlan and 18 miles west-southwest of Comalapa in Guatemala's Chimaltenango department.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of nearly 67 miles at the geographic coordinates of 14.664 north and 91.144 west, the agency added.

Details regarding possible damage or casualties caused by the earthquake were not reported.
