Doctor detained over planned suicide talk

LONDON, May 2 (UPI) -- An Australian doctor traveling to Britain to hold euthanasia talks was detained at London's Heathrow airport Saturday, officials said.

BBC reported Dr. Philip Nitschke planned to hold a workshop in Bournemouth Tuesday to demonstrate his DIY suicide kit.

Nitschke, who runs Exit International, said he was searched, fingerprinted and formally interviewed after being told his workshops could break British law.

"This is a very fundamental question of free speech -- people want to know about this," Nitschke was quoted as saying.

"This is an important cutting-edge social issue and to find people thinking about deportation because the message is supposedly so worrying says something about changes in British society which are quite troubling."
