5 Israelis indicted in alleged terror plot

HAIFA, Israel, April 30 (UPI) -- Five Israeli Arab youths were indicted after being arrested on suspicion of planning terror attacks and abducting Israeli soldiers, authorities said Thursday.

The youths -- including two minors -- were indicted on multiple counts of aiding and abetting the enemy, contacting a foreign agent and weapons charges, authorities said.

At least one youth's parents said he was being framed, Ynet, the Web site of the Hebrew daily Yediot Aharonot, reported.

The youths were arrested April 8, Passover Eve, after intelligence indicated they "were ready to make their move," Amakim police Chief Superintendent Avi Algarisi told Ynet.

"We wanted to thwart the possibility of an attack on the holiday," he said.

During a search of the suspects' homes, authorities said they uncovered explosives ready to be activated, computer files and other incriminating evidence, the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported.

The indictment accuses one teen, Abdallah Harubi, 19, of the northern multi-ethnic village of Maghar, of planning to recruit operatives to abduct soldiers and carry out terrorist attacks by planting explosives.

During an interrogation, Harubi allegedly confessed the plot and led authorities to the remaining suspects, some of whom were allegedly tasked with hiding weapons and planning an escape route, Ynet reported.
