WASHINGTON, April 29 (UPI) -- Some Republican senators say they are taking up an offer by Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania to return political contributions since he changed parties.
The Hill reported Wednesday in addition to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, Senate Republican Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander of Tennessee and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn of Texas are all asking that Specter return their donations.
Specter made the offer to return political contributions Tuesday, the day he announced he was leaving the Republican Party to become a Democrat.
The Hill reported that at least one Republican is not asking for his contribution to be returned. Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby is not requesting a refund of his $10,000, his spokesman said.
