TIJUANA, Mexico, April 29 (UPI) -- Police in Tijuana, Mexico, patrolled in convoys after groups of gunmen killed seven officers and wounded two.
On Tuesday, the day after the shootings, at least three police cars traveled together, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Investigators said gunmen traveling in at least three cars ambushed police officers Monday night. The attacks occurred in five locations spread out over 45 minutes.
"They attacked the officers they found along the way," said Julian Leyzaola, the city secretary of public safety. "Their intention was to intimidate the police department, but that is not going to happen."
He said that group patrols would continue indefinitely.
Investigators found three AK-47s allegedly used in the shootings and said they were used in two other killings this year.
