Second dead gray whale in Puget Sound

SEATTLE, April 28 (UPI) -- The second gray whale found dead since Sunday in Washington's Puget Sound will undergo a necropsy to determine the cause of death, officials said.

The gray whale was found in the sound's Birch Bay Monday afternoon, one day after another such whale was discovered near Camano Island, KIRO-TV, Seattle, reported.

A 30-foot boat Monday tried unsuccessfully to tow the body of the first whale to Oak Harbor, Wash., for an examination, with volunteers cutting it loose after determining the 40-mile trip wouldn't be possible, the broadcaster said.

Whale-watchers told KIRO the first whale had been seen acting sickly in the area for a month.
