FLAGSTAFF, Ariz., April 28 (UPI) -- Two wildfires burned Tuesday below the Mogollon Rim, the escarpment that cuts across northern Arizona, authorities said.
The Dripping Springs fire had consumed about 60 acres by Tuesday morning, the Camp Verde Bugle reported. The fire above and east of the small town of Pine remained uncontained.
Six hotshot teams were assigned to the blaze along with two airplanes and three helicopters. The fire was in an uninhabited area where no buildings were threatened and only one forest road closed.
Forestry officials said the Bear fire on a steep slope of the rim north of Sedona was about 60 percent contained, The Flagstaff Daily Sun reported.
The fire was believed to have started with a lightning strike Wednesday. It has burned 350 acres, with much of that from a "burnout" Sunday to eliminate dry vegetation above the fire.
