Son allegedly cut pacemaker from father

MANCHESTER, Iowa, April 27 (UPI) -- A Manchester, Iowa, man who allegedly cut his father's pacemaker from his chest has been charged with attempted murder, the local sheriff's office said.

Jesse Fierstine, 32, allegedly hit Charles Fierstine, 63, on the head with a flashlight and a piece of wood before cutting the pacemaker from his chest with a pocketknife, the Delaware County sheriff's office said.

The elder Fierstine was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City Saturday, KCRG-TV, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, reported Monday.

Authorities released no further information and an update on his condition was not immediately available.
