LONDON, April 27 (UPI) -- Two men went on trial Monday in London for killing of two French students allegedly tortured to get the security numbers for their bank cards.
A prosecutor said Daniel Sonnex, 23, and Nigel Farmer, 34, left "a scene of almost unimaginable horror," the Daily Mail reported. Firefighters found the bound bodies of Gabriel Ferez and Laurent Bonomo, both 23-year-old students at Imperial College.
The prosecutor, Crispin Aylett, said the students were killed for two Play Stations, two cell phones, some cash and the victims' bank cards.
Ferez was visiting Bonomo in his efficiency apartment, or bedsit, last June when Sonnex and Farmer allegedly invaded the apartment. Aylett said the two students apparently believed they would escape unscathed if they cooperated, only to be tortured for two hours before being killed and the apartment set on fire.
Both defendants have admitted parts of the crime while blaming the other for the killings, Aylett said.
