Mexico: Rights group alleges torture

MEXICO CITY, April 24 (UPI) -- Mexican human rights officials said the country's military is using torture on suspects in the war against drug cartels.

The country's independent National Human Rights Commission released findings indicating soldiers used advanced torture techniques like electric shock and beatings before handing suspects over to prosecutors, El Universal reported Friday.

The Mexican government has sent some 30,000 troops to the Mexican-U.S. border to combat the growing violence associated with the drug trade.
