OCALA, Fla., April 23 (UPI) -- A pharmacy in Ocala, Fla., said Thursday that medication given to 21 Venezuelan polo horses was incorrectly prepared. The horses subsequently died.
Franck's Pharmacy said in a statement that the strength of one of the ingredients in the medication prepared by company employees was incorrect, CNN said.
"We extend our most sincere condolences to the horses' owners, the Lechuza Polo team and the members of the United States Polo Association. We share their grief and sadness," said Jennifer Beckett, chief operations officer of the pharmacy.
The company said it would fully cooperate with authorities in the investigation into the horses' deaths last weekend.
The Palm Beach Post said the horses of the Lechuza Caracas polo team were stricken at the U.S. Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Fla.
