MASERU, Lesotho, April 23 (UPI) -- Eight men were arrested for a failed assassination attempt against Lesotho Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili, South African police said Thursday.

Seven of the men were arrested after they fled to South Africa and the eighth suspect was picked up in Lesotho, AllAfrica.com reported Thursday.

All were seized Wednesday after an attack on Mosisili's home in the capital of Maseru, said Sally de Beer, director of the South African national police.

Mosisili was not hurt in the attack, de Beer said.

In addition to the eight suspects inder arrest, four attackers were killed in a shootout and police were looking for another four who fled the scene, the Lesotho News Agency reported.

Mosisili's party came to power in peaceful elections in 2007 after years of military rule. Last year, the homes of several leading politicians were attacked and a curfew was imposed to curb violence, the news agency said.
