BOSTON, April 23 (UPI) -- The accused "Craigslist killer," who allegedly shot a woman during a robbery at a Boston hotel, is on suicide watch, a jail source said Thursday.

Philip Markoff was moved to an isolation cell after a corrections officer noticed marks on his neck that suggested he tried to hang himself with his shoelaces, The Boston Globe reported. He was said to be under constant monitoring.

A medical student at Boston University, Markoff was arrested Sunday as he drove to Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut with his fiancee. He has been charged with killing Julia Brisman, a New York model who offered massage services on Craigslist, and robbing another woman in Boston.

Detective Sgt. Brian Albert, who heads the Boston Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit, told the Boston Herald that he and other detectives began tailing Markoff about noon Sunday at his apartment in Quincy. The detectives followed him to BJ's Wholesale Club and watched as his fiancee hugged and kissed him.

"For the most part he wasn't smiling," Albert said. "He seemed calm, although a little stressed, and he was definitely attempting to go about his daily business, shopping and doing things he normally does."
