Peace activists draw prison sentences

LINKOPING, Sweden, April 22 (UPI) -- A court in central Sweden has sentenced three peace activists to prison for trying to destroy fighter planes manufactured by Saab Aerospace Systems.

The three defendants belong to a group called Avrusta that seeks to stop Sweden from exporting weapons, the Swedish news agency TT reported Wednesday.

They were accused of breaking into a Saab facility in Linkoping last month and using sledgehammers to damage several fighter planes.

The court sentenced the three to between four and six months in prison and ordered them to pay Saab $17,300 for damages to the aircraft.
