ROME, April 21 (UPI) -- Italy was correct in boycotting the United Nations Durban Review Conference on Racism in Geneva, Italian Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Tuesday.
Italy and other countries, including the United States, boycotted the event over a document that targets alleged racism in Israel, ANSA reported.
'We foresaw everything: we were farsighted; what we imagined would happen did happen,'' Berlusconi said.
Berlusconi's comment came after a several countries walked out of the meeting in protest of Iranian President Mahmoud Amhadinejad's description of Israel as a racist state.
Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini called for a new anti-racism forum, the Italian news agency said.
"I hope that there can be a second chance for the United Nations and that there can be a real international conference that talks about racism and Islamophobia," Frattini was quoted as saying.
